History of the ‘Čárda’ building

The building of Čárda, built between 1929-1931 in a functionalist style, was initially aimed for water sports devotees and served as a boat dock for the MACABI Sports Club. After the war in 1948 it was transferred to the property of the Czechoslovak Army, but until 1968 it had henceforth served for water sports purposes. Later in 1971, the premises became property of the Slovak Angling Union, after what they were acquired by the state-owned Water Management Authority and deemed fit for demolition. Despite the fact that the building has been situated in the flood-endangered area and thanks to the solid construction quality of the building, the demolition had not been carried out and the premises became property of the town of Komárno. As the building was considered redundant municipal property, it was sold to a private owner (Ľudovít Pápeš) in 1990. In the period of 1991-1993 the building was refurbished to its current appearance based on the project by Olivér Csémy.

In 1993 the building was repeatedly sold.
